I-94 Shut Down For 4 Hours

Detroit – East Side – 0830AM: A suicidal man stopped traffic on the EB and WB lanes of the I-94 early this morning. Detroit Police units from the 3rd & 9th Precincts responded to reports of an armed man in the area of Harper & Park.

The incident required the closing of the I-94 between Outer Dr & French by the Michigan State Police.

Upon arrival, Detroit police officer’s encountered the man in the middle of Harper Street holding a gun to his head, threatening suicide.

At one point the subject, described as a 32 year old man with marital problems, made his way to a fence that separated Harper Street from the WB lanes of the I-94.

Detroit police requested the closing of I-94 at 08:51AM, fearing the armed subject would jump a chain link fence and make his way into freeway traffic.

Family members of the man stated he had an argument with his spouse, causing him to become despondent.

Detroit Police activated an SRT call-up in response to the mans actions, leading to a lengthly negotiation process which lasted about 3 hours.

During negotiation attempts, the man stated that he’d drop the gun if he was able to see his children.

Detroit Police contacted the family and his mother and children were conveyed to the command post located at Park & Evanston.

During negotiations, the man made statements to the effect that he was going to commit suicide by cop and that the only way he was going to the hospital was in a body bag.

Detroit Police SRT continued negotiations and lost contact with him for about 45 minutes, making a tense situation even tenser.

The man eventually continued dialog with negotiators and during one of those conversations, a flashbang grenade was deployed causing the man to lose control of his weapon and SRT members took him into custody.

The I-94 was then reopened by the Michigan State Police at about 12:44PM.

Once the subject was in custody, Detroit Police took his children to the unit he was being detained in and allowed him to see his children.

The man was taken to Detroit Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Detroit: 2 Dead In Michigan State Police Chase

March 31, 2017 By MC911

Detroit-5:40PM West Side: 2 suspects are dead following a Michigan State Police chase on Detroit’s west side. What started as a routine car stop due to seat belt/tinted window violations, a silver Chrysler 300 lead Michigan State Police on a short pursuit.

MSP troopers attempted to stop the vehicle on the southbound M-39. The suspect vehicle exited Ford Rd and came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle kept his foot on the brake, a sure sign of nefarious intent. The MSP troopers announced over the units loudspeaker for the driver to remove his foot from the brake when the vehicle left the scene at a high rate of speed.

The trooper activated his overheads and siren and followed the suspects vehicle to the area of Ashton & Paul. The suspects vehicle apparently struck a van and careened into a tree at high speed. The vehicle split in half and the occupants were found to be deceased at the scene. The force of the crash was enough to separate the engine from the vehicle and killing the occupants.

Detroit Fire’s Engine 55 was dispatched for a washdown and upon arrival on the scene requested a squad due to trapped occupants & DEMS (DEMS Medic 11). Senior Chief 203 also responded and upon arrival, cancelled Squad 1. Senior Chief 203 requested a Detroit Emergency Medical Services (DEMS) supervisor (Car 1105) to the scene, soon transferring incident command to DEMS.

And You Thought You Had A Bad Day

Man Barricades Himself In Wrecked Car After Pursuit

Sterling Heights, Michigan: A man was taken into custody late Monday evening after leading Michigan State Police on a pursuit through the northern burbs.

Michigan State Police said the pursuit started at the M-59 and Romeo Plank Road for a traffic violation. The suspect refused to stop and lead troopers down the M59 to the I-94 and exited at Metro Parkway.

MSP troopers apparently deployed stop sticks and the suspect ran over the sticks because that’s what suspects do, then promptly lost control of his hot rod.

The suspects vehicle went into a ditch and overturned near Metro Parkway & Schoenherr Road in Sterling Heights.

Troopers were attempting to arrest the suspect when he announced he was armed and threatened to shoot the troopers.

MSP troopers being really smart, disengaged from the suspect and attempted to negotiate.

The suspect may have been in no mood to negotiate since he may have taken a shift knob right in the garden of good and evil during the roll. Rolling your vehicle can be and often is quite uncomfortable.

MSP’s Emergency Support Team and a negotiator were summoned to the scene.

The suspect kept troopers at bay for a short time and at 11:45PM, realizing it was useless to resist and how bad can spending Easter in jail really be , surrendered peacefully.

Michigan State Police 1, Knucklehead 0.

Local 4 News captured the ending on tape, bless their little hearts. The suspect, slowly and painfully, removed himself from the destroyed vehicle and into the loving, caring hands of the Michigan State Police.

I’m sure he’s thinking it was probably a bad idea to run from the MSP….or not, he might be an epically stupid guy.

Live and learn.

The wheels on the bus go round and round.
