Detroit: Detroit Police responded to reports of a shooting outside of their downtown headquarters on Saturday afternoon. DPD 911 received a call saying there had been a male shot at Michigan & 3rd St’s at around 3:45PM. Detroit Police dispatch had a bit of a problem finding units available as 3rd Precinct units were busy with a foot pursuit. A Casino unit responded along with 7th Precinct units. Detroit Fire also responded to the scene with Detroit EMS.
The suspects and victim were apparently known to each other and the shooting took place inside the victims vehicle parked outside the DPD Headquarters Building, according to dispatch. The victim was shot in the leg and was able to escape the vehicle.
The male and female suspect, driving the stolen/carjacked black Chevrolet Cruze, hightailed it to the bus station at Sixth & Howard, SW of the shooting location. There, a Michigan State Police Metro South Trooper was flagged down and advised a vehicle was blocking Howard St in front of the bus station.
While investigating the vehicle a cab driver told the trooper the front seat passenger had been armed. The driver was described as female. Michigan State Police dispatch advised the metro south trooper this was a fresh car jacking that occurred at Michigan and 3rd. The registered owner of the car was shot twice.
The trooper stood by rendering assistance until the arrival of DPD units.
The suspects, described as a Black male and Black heavy set female with long blonde hair jumped into a City Cab and were conveyed to the area of McClellan & Mack. Multiple units from the 7th Precinct responded to the area and a search for the suspects commenced. The suspects were eventually cornered and arrested. A weapon was recovered.
