Sitting DETROIT JUDGE and Three Others Charged with Scheme to Steal Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars from Vulnerable and Incapacitated Wards

January 30, 2026 By MC911 Leave a Comment

Judge Andrea Bradley-Baskin-36th District Court

DETROIT — Four Charged in Alleged Scheme to Embezzle Funds From Incapacitated Individuals

Four Detroit-area residents — including a sitting district court judge and a local attorney — have been charged for their alleged roles in a years-long scheme to embezzle money from incapacitated individuals, United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr. announced today.

The announcement was made alongside Jennifer Runyan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, and Karen Wingerd, Special Agent in Charge of the IRS Criminal Investigation Detroit Field Office.

Those charged are Nancy Williams, 59; Avery Bradley, 72; Andrea Bradley-Baskin, 46; and Dwight Rashad, 69, all of Detroit. Each was charged by indictment with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The indictment also charges:

  • Avery Bradley with one count of wire fraud
  • Bradley, Bradley-Baskin, and Rashad with multiple counts of money laundering
  • Bradley-Baskin with one count of making a false statement to federal law enforcement

According to the indictment, probate courts appoint guardians and conservators to manage the personal and financial affairs of adults deemed unable to do so themselves. These fiduciaries are legally required to act in the best interests of their wards.

The indictment alleges Nancy Williams owned Guardian and Associates, an agency appointed by the Wayne County Probate Court to serve as fiduciary for incapacitated wards in more than 1,000 cases. Avery Bradley, an attorney, and his daughter Andrea Bradley-Baskin, also an attorney, operated a law firm that regularly represented Guardian and Associates in Wayne County Probate Court. Bradley-Baskin is currently a judge on Michigan’s 36th District Court. Dwight Rashad operated multiple group homes and residential facilities for elderly individuals, including wards.

Prosecutors allege the defendants conspired to systematically embezzle funds from wards and their estates for personal gain. The indictment outlines numerous examples, including:

  • Allegations that Bradley-Baskin used approximately $70,000 in ward funds to purchase an ownership stake in a local bar
  • Allegations that Bradley, Williams, and Rashad misappropriated approximately $203,000 from a ward’s legal settlement without benefiting the ward
  • Allegations that Williams paid Rashad rent for wards who did not reside in his facilities
  • Allegations that Bradley-Baskin used ward estate funds to pay a two-year lease on a Ford Expedition

“We respect the authority that comes with a black robe,” said U.S. Attorney Gorgon. “This state judge and her alleged co-conspirators abused that honor by preying on individuals protected by the court. This would represent a grievous breach of public trust.”

“Regardless of position or status, no one is above the law,” said FBI SAC Jennifer Runyan. “These defendants are accused of exploiting vulnerable citizens who depended on them for care and protection. If you prey on the vulnerable, we will find you and hold you accountable.”

IRS-CI SAC Karen Wingerd added, “What makes these allegations particularly disturbing is that the victims were among our most vulnerable populations and trusted the accused to act in their best interests.”

Anyone with information regarding wards associated with Guardian & Associates or Tri-State Guardian Services is encouraged to contact the FBI. https://forms.fbi.gov/victims/DEwards/view

An indictment is a formal accusation and not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert A. Moran and John Neal.

26500 Block of Kathy-Officer Wounded

ROSEVILLE, MI Jan 23, 2026: At 5:26 PM Friday, Roseville Police were notified via a 911 call of a domestic incident in the 26500 block of Kathy. The caller reported her husband was acting erratically and had access to firearms.

Responding officers were advised the suspect was armed with a shotgun and that three firearms were inside the residence. Officers requested that other occupants leave the home. Although officers did not initially hear gunfire, neighbors reported shots had been fired.

At 5:36 PM, officers reported shots being fired, and shortly thereafter an officer was struck by gunfire. A second round of shots was reported at 5:37 PM, with officers describing heavy / multiple shots coming from the residence. Officers returned fire, stating shots were coming from the bay window of the home.

By 5:38 PM, officers reported the wounded officer was okay. The officer was removed from the scene and transported by a staged Roseville Fire Department Medic.

Officers warned responding units that the suspect was firing a high-powered rifle. During this time, the suspect was on the phone with Roseville PD Dispatch, who relayed information to officers. A Crisis Negotiator later took over communication. The suspect stated he had been shot in the arm and was slurring his speech. Family members advised dispatch the suspect may have been taking pills and drinking.

Officers informed dispatch that the suspect would be provided medical aid if he exited the home with his hands up. The Roseville Police Special Response Team (SRT / SWAT) was notified. Nearby residents were instructed to barricade inside their homes, behind hard cover.

Officers repositioned away from the line of fire while awaiting assistance. At approximately 7:00 PM, Roseville SRT arrived and took positions near the front of the house, supported by a St Clair Shores PD drone operator inside an MRAP. Warren Police SRT assisted with operations at the front of the residence.

At 7:01 PM, CS gas (tear gas) was deployed into the home. Roseville SRT requested Warren SRT, which utilized a breaching arm on their SRT vehicle, to help with deploying CS Gas into the home. A Roseville SRT operator joined Warren SRT during breaching operations, which included porting windows and other entry points for additional CS deployment.

The suspect was highly mobile inside the residence, repeatedly entering and exiting the attic of the single-story home, which spans the house and attached garage. Officers tracked the suspect’s movement by debris falling from the ceiling. At one point, the suspect appeared to fall through the ceiling, retreating into the garage.

Breaching attempts on the garage and roof were made and appeared successful. A drone was deployed inside the residence to assist in locating the suspect. At one point, the suspect was observed armed with a hammer, moving between the living room, garage, and attic.

Commands were being given throughout the incident through the use of a PA.

At 7:41 PM, with a Roseville SRT arrest team in position, the suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody. One officer sustained a superficial facial cut during the arrest.

Agencies assisting included St. Clair Shores PD (drone support), Eastpointe PD, Center Line PD, Detroit PD, Warren PD (SRT), Michigan State Police, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and Fraser PD.

The unidentified Roseville PD Officer and suspect are in stable condition at local hospitals.

Northlawn & Santa Clara in NW Detroit

Missing Juvenile Located- NW Detroit

Detroit Police 12th Precinct had been working a missing juvenile case in the area of Northlawn & Santa Clara since approximately 10:55 PM last night, Friday Jan 23 2026.

The child ran from his guardians on Northlawn and was last seen heading south toward McNichols. He was not properly clothed for the extreme cold conditions.

A large-scale search was immediately launched, involving multiple precincts, Michigan State Police aviation (Trooper 2), and at least one K9 unit were also involved. Officers checked Green Light camera footage, followed up on tips from residents, established a command post, and conducted a coordinated grid search of the area.

At approximately 2:30 AM Saturday morning, officers located the child walking on Northlawn near Santa Maria.

EMS was dispatched to evaluate the child, who is being conveyed to Children’s Hospital out of an abundance of caution. The child’s mother is also being transported to the hospital by officers from the 12th Precinct.

Tragedy averted.

I hesitated to post about the search out of concern for interfering with the operation or potentially placing the child in further danger. Unfortunately, not everyone in this world has good intentions.

The most important outcome is this: the child is safe and receiving medical care if needed.
