The Fire Chief (200) and Deputy Chief (201) both made the fire scene, eventually visiting the injured firefighters at the hospital.

Detroit Homicides Up In 2016. Car Theft & Rape Also Up.

January 3, 2017 By Motor City 911 Leave a Comment

Murder Up, Crime Down. Life In The D

If you follow this account or pay any attention to the news you know Detroit is a pretty dangerous place. Is it unlike any major city? Not really.

Crime is a fact of life.

Poverty is a fact of life. Drug usage is a fact of life. Gangs are a fact of life. All those things contribute to crime in the D.

People who prey on others will always exist in our society, so don’t expect squadrons of singing butterflies to invade Detroit or any other city on the planet anytime soon.

The AP released some 2016 crime statistics today. It shows homicides are up in Detroit, 302 in 2016 versus 295 in 2015. A win apparently, not for the dead, but a win for the city.

Car thefts were up by 500 and rape, up 27 from last year. Criminal sexual conduct rears its ugly head a lot in Detroit.

Statistics also reveal that aggravated assaults, burglaries and larcenies also were down in 2016.

Fewer than 960 non-fatal shootings occurred last year according to the statistics released.

The 382 carjackings in 2016 were 150 less than the year before and down 400 from 2013, so your chances of escaping a Detroit gas station with your vehicle in the wee hours got a little bit better.

The most disturbing 2016 statistic from Detroit? 3 Detroit law enforcement officers lost their lives in line of duty deaths. Sergeant Kenneth Steil and Officer Myron Jarrett of the Detroit Police, and Sergeant Collin James Rose of the Wayne State University Police Department.

All in all, we aren’t Chicago. You can take some solace in that.

And so it goes…

High-Tech Rendering Of West Side Pursuit

Deadly Pursuit On Detroit’s West Side

UPDATE: The driver died in the hospital of injuries suffered in the collision with a parked vehicle. The video above shows that collision.

Motor City/Detroit – 0030hrs January 2 2017: Detroit Police scouts from the 10th Precinct were involved in a deadly pursuit early this morning on Detroit’s west side.

The 10th Precinct scouts (Scout Car 1031) were investigating a minor traffic collision involving a gray Dodge Caravan and an unfortunate pole at Joy Road & Livernois early today at about 12:30am.

The gray Dodge Caravan didn’t want to have anything to do with the po-po and decided to flee, attempting to ram the officer’s vehicle with theirs in the process.

Say hello to felony assault on a police officer.

The pursuit went from Livernois & Joy Road, to Carbondale and then went back up to Joy where it proceeded west. The minivan did its best to imitate a carnival bumper car ride, striking numerous parked vehicles while fleeing.

The pursuit terminated at Tireman & Whitcomb after the minivan struck another vehicle.

The passenger in the minivan was ejected during the collision. Detroit EMS medics pronounced the passenger deceased at the scene.

Say hello to vehicular manslaughter. No more birthdays.

The driver of the minivan was placed under arrest and conveyed to a local hospital with numerous injuries. A passenger in the vehicle they struck was also conveyed with minor injuries.

The dispatch audio follows the pursuit from Livernois & Carbondale to its conclusion, although the actual collision isn’t recorded on tape, sorry.

And so it goes….
