Detroit, Mi – December 18, 2018 – 08:52am: Detroit Fire’s 8th Battalion responded to reports of a fire @ Hull & E Winchester early Tuesday morning. Engine 56, the first arriving fire company, immediately started battling the blaze inside the basement with a ‘red line’, a small line used to fight small fires.

Dispatch Audio: Detroit EMS Conveys 1 Year Old To Sinai-Grace Hospital, Possible Opioid Overdose

December 18, 2018 By Motor City 911

Detroit’s West Side – December 17 2018 – 8:05PM: A 1 year old child is in the hospital this evening after possibly overdosing on opioids. The child was conveyed from the 9600 block of Coyle to Sinai-Grace Hospital by Detroit EMS in critical condition.

At 8:05 PM on Monday, Detroit EMS dispatched DEMS Medic 26 to the 9600 block of Coyle on reports a 1 year old child was having difficulty breathing, coded as cardiac arrest. Detroit Fire’s Engine 55 was also dispatched.

At 8:08PM. both DEMS Medic 26 and Detroit Fire’s Engine 55 were cancelled when the 911 callers opted for private transport rather than Detroit EMS. Both units then went back into service.

At 8:16PM, Detroit EMS dispatched Medic 25 to the 9600 block of Coyle with once again, Detroit Fire’s Engine 55. This time the call was dispatched as a 1 year old child in possible cardiac arrest/not breathing.

At 8:23PM, DEMS Medic 25 & Detroit Fire’s Engine 55 conveyed the child to Sinai-Grace Hospital. DEMS Medic 25 notified there was no parent on board and that the child was possibly suffering from an opioid overdose. The medic on board also requested Detroit Police be notified due to drugs being involved. A Detroit EMS supervisor was also requested.

Detroit Police officers from the 2nd Precinct responded to Sinai-Grace and investigated. A unit at Sinai-Grace notified dispatch that although a large number of people were at the scene on Coyle, no one came forward as the child’s parent.

DPD’s 2nd Precinct also sent units to the 9600 block of Coyle to secure the scene. Detroit evidence technicians were also dispatched to Sinai-Grace for the collection of evidence for a case of ‘critical child abuse’.

Late Monday evening, units were being assembled to make a possible arrest in the case.

The child’s last transmitted condition was critical and in cardiac arrest.

No further information is available.

Below is audio of Detroit EMS, Detroit Fire and Detroit Police at the time of the incident. The first part of this audio is the call that was cancelled after being dispatched. The second set of transmissions from Detroit EMS & Detroit Fire is the completed call for assistance. The remaining transmissions are those of the Detroit Police Department.

Shooting Victim Found In Locked Vehicle

Detroit’s West Side – 4:30PM – 17 Dec 2018: Detroit Police were called to the 7700 block of Ashton this afternoon on reports of another shooting on Detroit’s west side.

Confirmed Shooting: DPD's 6th Precinct @ Ashton & Tireman for a shooting. DPD Unit breaking window of vehicle to reach victim. DEMS Medic 26 responding. DPD unit requests DEMS to step it up. Female victim. https://t.co/8R5lspNJFw pic.twitter.com/BMGKx5ZOf9

— Motor City 911 (@DetroitScanner) December 17, 2018

The 911 caller told police there was a vehicle in her driveway and inside was a woman with a gunshot wound. Arriving officers notified dispatch of a of a confirmed shooting and broke a window of the vehicle in order to gain access.

Officers on scene asked that DEMS be stepped up and DEMS Medic 26 was dispatched. Medic 26 conveyed the woman to a local hospital in unknown condition.

Initially, police believed the shooting could be in conjunction with an accident on the M-39 (Southfield Freeway) @ Plymouth. The vehicle appears to have left the roadway on the M-39, rolled and came to rest on the service drive. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene.

Breaking Glass To Active Shooter In 2 Seconds Flat

December 16, 2018 By Motor City 911

This afternoon a gentleman who follows me on Twitter asked if I had heard of the active shooter at the Southland Center in Taylor. I responded with this tweet:

No, listening, but I tend to wait before telling everyone there’s an active shooter on the loose, which usually isn’t the case..but if I hear anything that can confirm that, I’ll post.

— Motor City 911 (@DetroitScanner) December 16, 2018

A sign of the times I guess. Taylor police were alerted to a smash and grab inside a jewelers shop at around 5:40PM Sunday afternoon. The sound of the display cabinet breaking made shoppers immediately think that someone was busting loose with rounds inside the mall.

Thankfully that wasn’t the case. It’s all too common for people to immediately assume an active shooting incident is taking place, causing panic not only at the scene but also on social media.

This time however, I saw no evidence of media jumping on the active shooter bandwagon. The only tweet I saw even referencing the incident was from reporter Ali Hoxie at WXYZ.

Just got off the phone with Taylor Police, there was a smash and grab at Southland Mall, NOT an active shooter as some people have been saying online. On my way to the scene now @wxyzdetroit

— Ali Hoxie (@ali_hoxie) December 16, 2018

A responsible journalist, checking with local law enforcement before declaring an active shooter incident. Props to WXYZ reporter Ali Hoxie. Refreshing.

It’s true that active shooter incidents happen across the US on an all too frequent basis, but declaring one before the facts are known isn’t helping anyone. Patience is a virtue when dealing with incidents that aren’t fully understood.
