Dispatch Audio: Officer Involved Shooting In Westland, Suspect Shot And In Custody

Suspect Shot In Westland

Westland 2:36PM September 9 2022: An officer involved shooting occurred today at around 2:36PM. According to dispatch audio, officers were notified of a man with a gun in the area of Palmer & Venoy. Subsequent radio transmissions stated the suspect ran into the Palmer Road Baptist Church, 33740 Palmer Rd in Westland.

Officers on the scene reported the suspect was firing out the church’s windows at officers. At that time no officers had returned fire. The suspect was seen moving around the church, eventually firing out the east, west and south side windows. No officers were struck. SWAT/SRT was summoned to the location and the area was locked down by officers from Westland, Inkster ++. Adams Middle School was also locked down during the incident.

Detroit Police Officer Shot Suspect

More shots were fired on officers and according to dispatch audio, a ‘Detroit Police Officer‘ returned fire during one of those exchanges. Officers on scene reported the suspect was screaming unintelligibly inside the church. The suspect eventually told an officer on scene that he had been shot, asking to talk to one person only. It appears at this time the Detroit Police )fficer’s shots struck the suspect once. Dispatch audio from emergency medical personnel on scene suggested the suspect had been struck once in the hand and was in stable condition.

The suspect surrendered at around 3:15PM. Dispatch audio suggests the Detroit Police Department and Michigan State Police will be handling the investigating. It’s unknown what section the DPD officers on scene were attached to.

Update via Michigan State Police

Update via MSP: Preliminary investigation revealed that a MSP canine unit was assisting Detroit Police who were actively tracking a suspect wanted for R&O, CCW & felonious assault. The surveillance units tracked the suspect from Ecorse to a house in Westland. DPD officers observed the suspect exit his vehicle. attempted a takedown but the suspect fled into a church. Once inside, the suspect began firing rounds from several windows on the 2nd story down at officers. The shots struck a Westland police unit on the passenger side door as well as the windshield of a Wayne County Sheriff vehicle.  Additional officers and troopers converged on the scene and observed gunfire coming from the windows in their general direction. At one point during the initial contact, a DPD officer returned fire at the suspect.  It is unknown if the round struck the suspect or if he was hit by glass and debris from the round. The suspect then surrendered without further incident. No other officers, deputies or troopers fired at the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released and is now lodged at the Wayne County Jail. No officers or members of the public were hurt. All the information provided is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. MSP detectives will forward a investigators report to the prosecutor for review.

Dispatch Audio: Running Gun Battle With Detroit Police On Detroit’s SW Side, 3 Suspects In Custody

3 Males In Custody Following Pursuit, Shots Fired At Officers

Detroit’s SW Side 1004PM Thursday 8 11 2022: A Detroit 4th Precinct Scout attempted a traffic stop on an improperly plated black Dodge Ram at around 10:04PM Thursday evening. The vehicle was occupied by 3 Black males. The occupants fired on the officers from inside the vehicle, striking the Detroit Police Scout Car. No officers were injured.

The 4th Precinct Scouts followed the vehicle and additional shots were fired at officers according to dispatch audio. At one point during the pursuit, the officers returned fire and struck the suspect vehicle in the area of Omaha & Electric.

The pursuit entered the 94 and 39 freeways on several occasions approaching speeds of 115MPH. The suspects ended up Southfield Rd & Snow Ave where a pit maneuver by Michigan State Troopers forced the vehicle to stop. The 3 males bailed from the vehicle. Two of those suspects was taken into custody almost immediately after running towards some ponds, with one running across the 39 Freeway in the area of Southfield Rd across from Lowes Home Improvement in Allen Park, near the ponds. All 3 suspects were taken into custody by responding units from the Michigan State Police, Detroit Police Department and Dearborn PD at around 10:32PM. The weapon used to fire on the officers; described in dispatch audio as an AR15, was also recovered.

The Southfield Freeway was closed during the investigation.

No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire. An MSP Trooper did receive ‘bumps and bruises’ during the takedown.

via DPD’s 9th Precinct: Our 9th precinct patrol responded to a shots fired call where the suspect fled. A crime analyst from the 9th precinct Intelligence Unit acted fast and accurately to recover the video footage of the shooter and the suspect’s vehicle. Patrol was able to link the suspect vehicle license plate to an address in the area and made an arrest. Great work by investigators and the 9th precinct crime analyst on this arrest!

Dispatch Audio: Detroit Public Schools Police Officer Killed In Line Of Duty

DPS Officer Dies Following Large Fight

Detroit’s NW Side-3:37PM March 10 2022: A Detroit Public Schools officer died during a large fight near Henry Ford High School, 20000 Evergreen Rd. Detroit Police were notified by DPS Police dispatch at around 337PM that one of their officers was injured and down in the area of Trojan & Vaughan, 1 block west of Henry Ford High School.

Multiple officers from DPS School Police and Detroit’s 8th Precinct responded. At the time of dispatch and arrival of officers, the injured DPS officer was unconscious and not breathing. Detroit EMS was dispatched to the scene, but a DPS Police unit conveyed the critically injured officer to Sinai-Grace Hospital. Officers from both the DPD and DPS blocked roads for the conveying officer.

The Detroit Public Schools officer was pronounced deceased at Sinai-Grace. At the time of this writing it’s unknown how the officer died. A large log was recovered from the scene and surveillance video capturing the incident shows a rather hectic scene, but the cause of the officers death is still unknown.

The below audio is dispatch transmissions from the Detroit Police Department at the time of contact.

via ODMP: Police Officer Freddie Wilson died after collapsing at the scene of a large fight near Henry Ford High School at about 3:30 pm. Multiple officers had responded to the fight near the intersection of Vaughan Avenue and Trojan Street that involved a large number of subjects. Officer Wilson suddenly collapsed as they were dispersing the crowd. Other officers immediately rendered aid. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. Officer Wilson had served with the Detroit Public Schools Community District Police Department for over 20 years.
