3 Detroit Firefighters Injured On Fire Scene

Detroit – 4 January 2017: 3 Detroit Firefighters were injured while fighting a fire on Detroit’s north end early Wednesday morning at around 0740am.

The 5th Battalion was dispatched to the 9100 block of Cameron for an occupied dwelling fire. Companies assigned were Battalion Chief 5, Highland Park Engine 1, Hamtramck Engine 1, Engine 35, Ladder Truck 7, Engine 17, Squad 3, DEMS Medic 1 and Engine 39 as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team).

Engine 35 was the first company on the scene and immediately started placing water on the fire. All occupants from the house made it out safely according to Battalion Chief 5.

During the firefight, firefighters from the 5th Battalion’s Engine 35 were injured. The unconfirmed cause of the injuries was a backdraft occurring during the firefight.

Injuries ranged from minor burns, soft tissue damage and an injured ankle.

Engine 35’s injured firefighters were transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital by DEMS Medic 16 according to radio traffic.

The Fire Chief (200) and Deputy Chief (201) both made the fire scene, eventually visiting the injured firefighters at the hospital.

Detroit Police Arson Car 809 was dispatched and also made the fire scene.

Ladder Truck 7 issued the disposition code of 30, “undetermined” as the cause behind the fire.

Battalion Chief 5 took Engine 35 out of service until manpower could be replenished.

The condition of the firefighters has not been released.

Detroit – 4 January 2017: A wrong way driver traveling  northbound in the southbound lanes of the I-75 killed 3 people and injured 2, at least one critically, in an early morning traffic collision on the southbound  I-75 @ Warren.

Michigan State Police dispatch advised MSP Troopers of the accident at 3:45am, the southbound lanes of the I-75 were affected and reports of debris/victims in the northbound lanes.

MSP Troopers discovered 1 person had been ejected from one of the two vehicles involved, with one vehicle on fire.

Detroit Fire’s Engine 17 & Squad 2 were then dispatched to the scene by DFD Central Dispatch.

An additional Squad was requested by Engine 17 with Squad 3 being assigned.

The above audio is the Michigan State Police & Detroit Fire dispatch audio to the I-75 accident.

The southbound I-75 was closed for hours, finally opening at around 7:39AM.

Body Found Burned Beyond Recognition In Vacant Detroit Church

Detroit December 25 2016: Detroit Fire’s 7th & 1st Battalions were dispatched to Livernois & South St’s just after midnight on reports of a fire in an abandoned commercial bldg.

Companies discovered the fire in an vacant church building @ 437 Livernois in southwest Detroit.

During the incident, DFDs Engine 27 discovered a body burned beyond recognition in the basement of the building.

Investigators are working on identification.

Hostile Scene Prevents Detroit Fire And Detroit EMS From Tending To Cardiac Arrest Patient

Hostile Scene Greets Detroit Fire’s Engine 56 & DEMS Medic 16

 

 

Detroit Fire’s Engine 56 rolled up on a hostile scene while assisting Detroit EMS on a medical aid run earlier today.

Engine 56 & Detroit EMS were dispatched to Charest & Emery on Detroit’s north end for a cardiac arrest patient around 12:45PM today.

Upon arriving on the scene, Engine 56 and DEMS Medic 16 were greeted by 5 males creating a hostile environment.

Engine 56 & Medic 16 quickly removed themselves from the situation and staged nearby.

Chief of the Department; Chief 200, requested a battalion chief make the scene with the companies. Battalion Chief 8 responded.

While staged, Battalion Chief 8 discovered that Detroit EMS Supervisor 1103; who had been on scene, saw a male subject armed with a shotgun.

1:10PM: Detroit Police units from the 11th Precinct were dispatched and took control.

Engine 57, Battalion Chief 8 and DEMS Medic 16 returned to the scene with the intention of tending to the patient, but unfortunately too much time had passed and DEMS Medic 16 discovered the patient had died.

4 Dead In Carbon Monoxide Incident

Four males were found dead by Detroit police early Wednesday on Detroit’s west side. At 12:45 PM, DPD responded to 8833 Fenkell and found 4 males unresponsive inside the 30×100 commercial building. DPD Scouts attempted to gain entry to the building but were turned back by CO fumes. Detroit Police scouts on scene advised dispatch that firefighters would need self contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA, in order to gain entry.

Units Dispatched:

Detroit Police Scouts from the 12th Precinct were first on the scene.

Detroit Fire’s 8th Battalion was dispatched on a SPECIAL with Detroit EMS.

Detroit Fire Companies Assigned to the Special: Battalion Chief 8, Engines 40, 42 and 43, Ladder Truck 17 and HAZMAT 1.

Detroit Fire’s HAZMAT 1 reported they may have a CO explosion but would need to make entry and set up a CO monitor to test air quality before giving a disposition.

Supervisors from Detroit EMS, Detroit Fire and Detroit Police arrived on scene at the request of Battalion Chief 8. Detroit Police Arson was also requested and Cars 805, 802 and 803 were dispatched to the scene. A Detroit Fire Marshal was also dispatched.

Detroit Police scouts reported a gasoline generator was operating inside the building when they arrived.

Detroit Police evidence techs were assigned to secure the scene for investigators. The ages and identities of the victims is unknown at this time. Foul play is not suspected.
