MSP K9 Rex Killed By Drunk Driver On The Lodge

via MSP: Death of Departmental Canine/ Traffic Crash: On 7/25 at approximately 1:05 AM, a MSP Canine unit had S/B M-10 & Linwood closed due to flooding. The patrol car was positioned across all lanes of the freeway ramping off traffic. The freeway had been closed for several hours.

At approximately 1:05 AM, the canine unit activated his emergency tone and advised he had just been hit. The trooper advised the suspect vehicle was also in flames. Detroit Fire arrived on scene and began treating the severely injured passengers of the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle occupants were transported to a local hospital. At this time it appears the suspect vehicle was traveling at freeway speed and hit the MSP Tahoe. The trooper sustained non life threatening injuries to his legs. MSP Canine Rex was transported to Blue Pearl animal hospital in Southfield for severe spine and leg injuries. K9 Rex later died as the result of his injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is believed to be under the influence of alcohol. He has serious injuries. The female front seat passenger has critical injuries. The female rear seat passenger also has serious injuries.

Troopers and the MSP Crash Reconstruction team investigating the crash and have obtained a blood draw which will be tested for alcohol.MSP Canine Rex was a member of the Metro South Post and was known for his determination in searching for suspects and articles. He was a tremendous partner to his handler and was an asset to the post.

MSP Updates Charges For Suspect Henri Brown of Southfield

Update via Michigan State Police July 27 2021:

Patrol Car Crash Update: Henri Brown, 40 years old from Southfield, was arraigned in the hospital today for the patrol car crash that resulted in the death of MSP Canine Rex.

Brown was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor Office on a eight count felony warrant including Habitual Offender 4th.

Two Counts OWI causing serious injury (5 Year)Two Counts Driving on Revoked License causing serious injury (5 year)

One Count Police Officer- Assaulting/Resisting causing injury (4 Year)Operating with a high BAC (.17)Third Offense (5 year Max)

Operating While Intoxicated Third Offense (5 year Max)Open Container Alcohol (90 Day) Fourth Offense Notice for 3 or more felony convictions.

His blood test returned at .17 BAC. He was given $50,000 bond (10%) with GPS and alcohol tether. Brown has five prior OWI convictions. He remains in the hospital recovering from his injury.

His front seat passenger remains on life support for her to donate her organs. The second passenger has serious non life threatening injuries. The trooper involved was released from the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Pends court proceedings.

Michigan State Police: Serious Injury MVA, 1-275-8 Mile

via Michigan State Police: Overnight: On 7/14 at approximately 12:15 AM, troopers were dispatched to southbound I-275 Fwy near 8 Mile Road for a single car serious crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a single vehicle was southbound on I-275 at a high rate of speed, lost control and ran off the roadway into the median.

The car continued down the median at a high rate of speed, went over 8 Mile, continued up the embankment between north and south I-275 and rolled over. The vehicle was occupied by one male and one female at the time of the crash. The male occupant walked away from the crash, but was soon located by Livonia Fire and transported to the hospital.  The female occupant was entrapped and had to be cut out of the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. This crash pends further investigation.

Dispatch Audio-Video: Detroit Police, Michigan State Police Pursue And Apprehend Murder Suspect On Detroit’s West Side

Detroit’s West Side (10:30PM March 12 2021): DPD’s 6th/2nd Precinct were monitoring a pair of suspects inside a vehicle suspected of being involved in a shooting/shots fired earlier in the area of Fenkell & Outer Dr W. The suspects inside the vehicle pointed a weapon in the direction of officers earlier. The suspect vehicle, a stolen white Dodge Charger with a cover over the license plate, and blacked out took police and troopers on a high speed chase through the west side. The vehicle struck a 6th Precinct scout car at Kentfield & I-96 and crashed. Both were taken into custody, weapon(s) were recovered. The suspects were treated at the scene by Rapid Response Medic 51.No officers were injured. Dispatch audio of the incident is below.

via Michigan State Police: Assist to Detroit Police: On 03/12 at approximately 10 35 PM, troopers overheard on the Detroit Police talk group that a DPD Scout had two subjects point guns at them.  DPD advised there were at least two people in the suspect vehicle both armed with pistols. Troopers located the Dodge Charger that matched the description at Evergreen and I-96 running with no lights.



They attempted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Troopers pursued the vehicle until it stopped on a side street. As troopers approached, the suspect driver then fled again.



The suspect ran a stop sign at Kentfield and I 96 service drive striking a DPD unit. Troopers and DPD arrested the two subjects without incident. The vehicle was confirmed stolen and a stolen handgun was recovered from the vehicle. It was also discovered the driver was wanted in connection to a homicide. The suspects were treated for minor injuries on scene. None of the officers were hurt. Pends further investigation.

Freeway Shooting EB I-94 At Woodward

Freeway Shooting On The I-94



Detroit 6:45PM: The Michigan State Police are investigating another freeway shooting, this time on the eastbound I-94 at Woodward Ave. Troopers from the MSP with assistance from the Detroit Police Department are preparing to shut down the eastbound lanes of the I-94 from the M-10 John C Lodge Freeway to the I-75 Chrysler Freeway.

Updates as more information is provided.



MSP Update-Freeway Shooting

via MSP: Road Rage Incident: On 1/24 at approximately 6 45 PM, a driver (Victim) of a passenger vehicle was driving eastbound I 94 between Woodward and I 75 when a vehicle in front of him preformed a brake check.

The driver passed the vehicle and brake checked the other driver back. That driver (suspect) pulled along the passenger side and fired approximately 2-3 shots with two causing damage to the victim’s vehicle in the area of the right side passenger door.

The victim indicated that the shots were fired on E/B I-94 Fwy between Woodward and I-75.  The suspect vehicle exited E/B I-94 at Van Dyke unknown direction of travel from I-94 Fwy. Eastbound I94 from M-10 to Woodward is closed for a search. Investigation continues

Road Rage Update: Detectives and troopers continued their investigation over night and were able to locate the suspect vehicle. The MSP Emergency Support Team executed a search warrant and a suspect(s) were taken into custody. More investigation to follow.

Video: MSP Pursuit Ends With 2 Captured

Two Suspects Taken Into Custody


On 1/22 at approximately 6 45 PM, troopers over heard a pursuit for a possible homicide suspect in a blue Hellcat Charger. The local departments discontinued the pursuit. A Metro North trooper relocated the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.The suspect driver refused to stop and troopers started to pursue the vehicle. The pursuit continued westbound I-94 near Masonic and ended at westbound 8 mile and Gratiot when the suspect vehicle crashed.



UPDATE: MSP Dispatch Station 20 overheard a vehicle pursuit on westbound I-94 near Metropolitan Parkway. Macomb County deputies were pursuing a suspect vehicle for a shooting/homicide which just occurred in Clinton Twp. Troopers were nearby and joined the pursuit. The pursuit continued westbound on 8 Mile Rd until the suspect vehicle crashed into a metal electrical pole in the median, just east of Gratiot Ave. The two suspects received injuries including broken bones and one had a previous gunshot wound. No MSP patrol cars received any damage nor came in contact with any other vehicles. No members of the public or troopers were hurt. The suspects were transported to St. John’s Moross Hospital for treatment. Two weapons (Long gun and pistol) were recovered from the suspect vehicle. For information on the original incident contact Clinton Township Police.

Final Pursuit Update: The Dodge Hellcat that was involved in the Clinton Township (Macomb County) homicide was confirmed stolen. The driver, a 20-year-old male from Warren, and passenger, a 19-year-old male from Mt. Clemens , where arrested without further incident. A vehicle search located two pistols and a long gun. Both suspects were turned over to Clinton Township Police as part of their investigation. The report from the pursuit will be turned over for prosecutor review. No further information will be released.
