Firebombing Kills One, Multiple Fires


Detroit: Multiple fires kept Detroit Fire busy Thursday morning, The Detroit Fire Department responded to 5 fires between the hours of 1:30AM and 4:00AM. One of those fires claimed the life of a 41 year old father. The fires and dispatch audio of each of those fires is below.


Freud & Navahoe – 1:30AM

Detroit Fire’s 6th Battalion responded to a vacant dwelling fire @ Freud & Navahoe at 1:30AM Thursday morning. Companies experienced hydrant problems on the fire scene.

9590 Whittier-Arson-2:10AM

Detroit Fire’s 9th & 8th Battalions responded to reports of an occupied apartment building fire @ 9590 Whittier at 2:10AM. Battalion Chief 9 called for a 2nd Alarm shortly after arriving, reporting multiple rescues in progress. Battalion Chief 9 also requested an arson car to the scene following information a recently evicted tenant started the fire. DPD’s Arson Car 805 responded.

Mayfield & Chalmers-Fatal Firebombing

Detroit Fire responded to reports of an occupied dwelling fire @ Mayfield & Chalmers early Thursday morning @ 2:30AM. Upon arrival companies found the dwelling fully involved and ordered a defensive posture. Unfortunately a 41 year old father lost his life in this fire, reportedly started when an unknown person threw a firebomb into the dwelling. Arson Car 805 & 810 responded to the fire scene. The structure collapsed during the fire.

Beaverland & Tireman – Arson – 3:30AM

Detroit Fire responded to Beaverland & Tireman on reports of an occupied structure fire at around 3:30AM. Battalion Chief 2 requested arson to scene.

Detroit Fire responded to Gratiot & Knodell on reports of an occupied commercial building fire @ around 4:00AM.

Detroit’s West Side: Detroit Fire’s Engine 53 responded to the 20000 block of Oakfield early this afternoon on reports of a vehicle fire. The call was quickly upgraded to a Box Alarm, dwelling fire, for the 4th Battalion of the DFD.

Firefighters found the vehicle fire had extended to a vacant dwelling and the first company on the scene, Engine 53, made a fast attack on the blaze.

Subsequent searches found weapons in the basement of the dwelling and a body burned beyond recognition inside the vehicle.

Officer’s from the 8th Precinct and arson were dispatched to the scene.

Edit: Battalion Chief 4, Engine 54 & Squad 1 later returned to the fire scene, requested by the Detroit Police Department.

Fatal Fire On Detroit’s West Side

St Marys St, Detroit’s West Side

Detroit’s West Side: Detroit Fire’s 4th Battalion battled an occupied dwelling fire in the 14800 block of St Marys early Friday morning. An 83 year old male died in the blaze.

 Detroit Fire’s 4th Battalion was dispatched to the scene at around 230AM Friday morning. Ladder Truck 25, the first company to make the scene, notified Central Dispatch that the 2nd story of a 2 story dwelling was on fire.

Detroit Fire’s Ladder 25 found the deceased in an upstairs bedroom, identified at the time as a Code 7, deceased. 

Officials believe the fire’s origin may have stemmed from careless smoking. Reports also indicate the victim was on oxygen. No one else was injured in the fire. 

Battalion Chief 4 also requested Arson to make the fire scene. 

Detroit Fire 4th Battalion Companies:

Engines 53 54 59 Ladder Truck 25 Squad 1 and Battalion Chief 4.

Detroit EMS were also on scene in a standby capacity.

Fatal Fire Scene On Hull St

Burned Body Found In Basement

Detroit, Mi – December 18, 2018 – 08:52am: Detroit Fire’s 8th Battalion responded to reports of a fire @ Hull & E Winchester early Tuesday morning. Engine 56, the first arriving fire company, immediately started battling the blaze inside the basement with a ‘red line’, a small line used to fight small fires.

At 8:58AM Engine 56 notified Detroit fire’s central dispatch that Detroit EMS was needed on the scene. Detroit Fire Chief 8 reported they had a squatter in the home, identifying the squatter as a DOS (Dead On Scene).

Battalion Chief 8 requested Detroit Police and Detroit EMS to the scene and made contact with a unit from DPD/DFD Arson.

Detroit EMS had been dispatched at 08:59am for standby and arrived at the fire scene at 9:06am with a Detroit Police unit from the 11th Precinct.

Detroit police are investigating the incident. Sources state the victim may have been murdered before being set ablaze, we’ll see.

2 Children, 2 Adults Dead In Rose Township Mobile Home Fire

Rose Township, MI: Oakland County Fire Authority and other agencies activated through mutual aid responded to Rose Township this morning @ 05:38AM for a fire at Wakeford Court & Southport Drive. The fire was reported to be across the street of the reporting person’s residence on Wakeford Court.

 

Upon arrival, OCFA Chief 1 reported he had a fully involved fire in a single wide mobile home with flames coming from all the windows.

Civilians on the scene stated there were 2 adults and 2 children still inside the dwelling. The fire was contained to the mobile home and had not extended to a detached garage.

Following a visual inspection, OCFA Chief 1 also reported he had found no tracks in the snow leaving the dwelling.

The dead include 2 adults, a female and male in the 20’s and 2 children, ages 2 & 5 years old.

2 others attempting to rescue the victims were also injured. A medic unit was dispatched to the fire scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
