Detroit’s West Side: Detroit Fire’s Engine 53 responded to the 20000 block of Oakfield early this afternoon on reports of a vehicle fire. The call was quickly upgraded to a Box Alarm, dwelling fire, for the 4th Battalion of the DFD.

Firefighters found the vehicle fire had extended to a vacant dwelling and the first company on the scene, Engine 53, made a fast attack on the blaze.

Subsequent searches found weapons in the basement of the dwelling and a body burned beyond recognition inside the vehicle.

Officer’s from the 8th Precinct and arson were dispatched to the scene.

Edit: Battalion Chief 4, Engine 54 & Squad 1 later returned to the fire scene, requested by the Detroit Police Department.

Fatal Fire On Detroit’s West Side

St Marys St, Detroit’s West Side

Detroit’s West Side: Detroit Fire’s 4th Battalion battled an occupied dwelling fire in the 14800 block of St Marys early Friday morning. An 83 year old male died in the blaze.

 Detroit Fire’s 4th Battalion was dispatched to the scene at around 230AM Friday morning. Ladder Truck 25, the first company to make the scene, notified Central Dispatch that the 2nd story of a 2 story dwelling was on fire.

Detroit Fire’s Ladder 25 found the deceased in an upstairs bedroom, identified at the time as a Code 7, deceased. 

Officials believe the fire’s origin may have stemmed from careless smoking. Reports also indicate the victim was on oxygen. No one else was injured in the fire. 

Battalion Chief 4 also requested Arson to make the fire scene. 

Detroit Fire 4th Battalion Companies:

Engines 53 54 59 Ladder Truck 25 Squad 1 and Battalion Chief 4.

Detroit EMS were also on scene in a standby capacity.

Body Found On Roof Of Vacant House Is Missing Detroit Man

Detroit Fire's Chief 4, Ladder 25 & Squad 1 assisted DPD earlier in removing a body from the roof of a dwelling on Detroit's west side. DPD Unit: "Trying to figure out how it happened"… Lesure & Midland. 2nd Precinct.

Family Finds Body Of Missing 20 Year Old

Detroit’s West Side: A body found on the roof of a vacant dwelling today is reportedly a missing 20 year old Detroit man, Drevon Johnson.

Mr Johnson had been missing since December 16th 2018.

Detroit Police were called to the vacant dwelling in the 15700 block of Lesure early in the afternoon of January 17, 2019. Mr Johnson’s family made the discovery while searching vacant houses in the neighborhood.

Mr Johnson lived on the same street his body was found on and amazingly, was found in the last place he was seen. A friend of Johnson told his family members she heard shots coming from the house Mr Johnson was in, but never investigated.

Unable to reach or remove Mr Johnson’s body, the Detroit Police Department asked the Detroit Fire Department to assist in its recovery.

Detroit Fire’s 4th Battalion Chief 4, Ladder Truck 25 and Squad 1 were dispatched and Ladder 25 used its aerial platform to remove the young man’s body from the roof.

A cause of death has not been determined and the Detroit Police are investigating.
