DETROIT October 24, 2016. Detroit streets saw multiple serious motor vehicle collisions today with at least 1 fatality. Earlier this AM, Detroit Police and Fire responded to Grand River & Oakman Blvd on reports of a serious traffic collision. That MVA resulted in 1 death and 1 critical patient. The accident apparently stemmed from a vehicle moving at high speed striking another. The struck vehicles occupant was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the suspected speeding driver was conveyed to the hospital in critical condition.
Later @ 4:20PM, a Detroit Police Officer came upon an accident at Gratiot & Glenfield on Detroit’s east side. The scout advised dispatch that she had “One through the windshield”. The DPD Scout continued to ask for the ETA of the Detroit EMS Medic as injuries to the victim(s) were described later as “very serious”. A Hazmat Level 1 was declared by Detroit Fire’s Engine 50. One of the vehicles involved was an 18 Wheeler and one of its 150 gallon diesel fuel tanks was emptying into nearby sewers. Detroit Fire dispatched Battalion Chief 9 to the scene in addition to DFD’s Hazmat 1 for the Level 1 Hazmat incident.
Multiple Detroit EMS Medic units were also dispatched to the scene. Detroit EMS Medic Units 8, 28 and another were sent to the scene. The conditions of those involved are unknown.
At 5:26PM, a Detroit Police Unit advised dispatch he had a serious motor vehicle accident at Connor & Kenmoor on Detroit’s east side, near the Coleman Young Municipal Airport. Transmissions suggest multiple patients including children. Once again, Detroit EMS dispatched multiple Medic units to the scene. Due to the severity of the accident, the Detroit Police roped off the entire scene. Images from the scene suggest 2 vehicles were involved, including an SUV. Other transmissions suggest at least 6 patients were conveyed to local hospitals. Conditions aren’t immediately available.
