Drone Hovers Above Landing Airliner At Las Vegas Airport

February 3, 2018 By Motor City 911

Video Shows Drone Dangerously Close To Landing Plane

Las Vegas Nevada (CNET) The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident in which someone apparently piloted a drone right above a jet landing at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

The KLAS TV station’s LasVegasNow.com website published video Thursday taken at an unknown time from a drone hovering over the city as a jet approaches and then passes underneath. The FAA said Friday it’s “aware of the incident and is investigating” but declined further comment.

Drones, piloted from the ground but providing an eye in the sky, promise new business opportunities for everybody from real estate photographers to oil refinery operators. And they can help police handle dangerous gunfire scenes. But anyone can buy one of the aircraft, and enforcing restrictions can be tough.

The Know Before You Fly website, from the FAA and drone and model aircraft groups, steers people toward 2,500 designated model aircraft flying sites. It can be tricky knowing where drone use is illegal, though. Airports are on the list, of course, but so are many military sites, US landmarks and the Super Bowl.

The FAA can fine individuals up to $1,437 for each violation of flight safety rules. Business’ fines can reach $32,666 per violation. Then there are criminal penalties of up to $250,000 in fines and three years in prison.

Remote-control aircraft have been around for decades, but drones are a novelty and add photos and videos into the mix. And the existing model-aircraft industry isn’t happy about the Las Vegas drone flight.

“All drone and model aircraft pilots must stay well clear of manned aircraft. We condemn the type of operation depicted in this video,” said Chad Budreau, director of government affairs for the Academy of Model Aeronautics, in a statement. “Anyone who violates aviation regulations or endangers public safety must be held accountable for their actions. We urge the FAA to take strong enforcement action against this drone pilot, and against any future violators.”

Detroit Firefighters And EMS To Get Body Armor

If you’ve followed this account for any time at all, you’ll know the dangers faced by our firefighters and EMT/Paramedics. There isn’t a day that goes by where they aren’t faced with dangerous circumstances when making scenes. From irate citizens, theft and outright attacks on their personages, Detroit’s first responders are often left to fend for themselves. Detroit Police do their best to protect them, but this is Detroit, the calvary isn’t always available.

Welcome to Detroit

The article below is from the Detroit News and George Hunter.

Detroit firefighters and emergency technicians may soon be equipped with body armor.

Fire Commissioner Eric Jones said he has secured funding to outfit his employees with the protective gear, which he said is sorely needed to protect them, especially given the recent spate of police officers shot in the city.

“We just had an EMT shot in Dallas,” he said. “The way things are going here in Detroit lately, I’m surprised no (fire department employees) have been shot. But it’s the law of averages. My guys have to be safe out there.”

A Dallas paramedic Monday was shot while treating a gunshot victim. The suspect was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The paramedic is expected to live.

In Detroit, through the years there have been several attacks on firefighters and EMTs. In March 2016, a medical technician was injured by irate family members of a man who was having trouble breathing, police said. The man’s relatives broke the window of the rig, shattering the glass and cutting the EMT, requiring a hospital visit.

Six months earlier, a Detroit EMS paramedic and her partner were slashed with a box cutter outside a Cass Corridor homeless shelter. Michael Montgomery was charged, pleaded guilty to several crimes, including assault, and was sentenced to up to 10 years. Montgomery also was convicted in a 2005 rape and homicide, and was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to up to 80 years for those crimes.

“You can’t prevent everything, but I can take some reasonable, prudent steps to take care of these guys,” said Jones, a longtime Detroit police official. “They’re on the same scenes as the police officers, and they face the same dangers. Many times when you arrive at a (crime) scene, and you think the suspect has left, but they haven’t. So our people need to be protected.”

Jones said he submitted a budget that included a $500,000 outlay for body armor, which was approved by the City Council and Mayor Mike Duggan.

“The question now is: Do we put out bids, or use the same company as DPD?” Jones said. “I’ll probably start the bidding and contract negotiation process, and then start scheduling people to come in and get fitted.”

Jones said there are a few other cities, including Miami, which provide body armor for firefighters and EMTs.

“Chicago doesn’t issue them to their people, but it’s allowed if they want to buy them,” he said. “There are other private ambulance companies across the nation that provide them. Some other jurisdictions provide them, but not too many.”

Armed Muslim Man In Profanity Laced Facebook Video

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – As the national manhunt for alleged Facebook killer Steve Stephens comes to a close, another disturbing Facebook Live video has surfaced showing a self-described Muslim man making apparent threats toward attendees at a Christian conference.

A video posted April 9 by Ehab Jaber shows a man believed to be Jaber filming a copy of the Koran before scanning the crowd with his camera during a portion of the Worldview Weekend rally in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

According to event organizer Brannon Howse, an off-duty police officer confronted Jaber and asked him to stop filming in compliance with the event’s policies.

In the video, upon being asked his name, Jaber tells the officer, “John Smith, the Muslim John Smith” and leaves the premises.

He later posted two more Facebook Live videos of himself sitting in a car in a parking lot outside the event.

One of the profanity-laced videos ends with Jaber pulling out what appears to be three pistols and two assault-style rifles while wearing a t-shirt with text reading in part, “I am a Muslim”, “I open carry”, and “I am only dangerous if you are stupid”.

As he displayed each weapon, Jaber can be heard repeatedly telling the camera, “Be scared” or “Be terrified”.

Howse posted still images from the video and asked, “Ask yourself if a white ‘Christian’ did this at a Muslim conference would he be arrested or charged?”

An estimated 500 people, including women, children and at least two state lawmakers attended the event, according to reports.

The conference’s agenda included a presentation from Shahram Hadian, an former Iranian Muslim turned Christian pastor, who was scheduled to give a presentation entitled “Sabotaging America: Islam’s March Toward Supremacy.”

According to Howse, no charges were filed against Jaber, since South Dakota allows for open carry. Police later told several media outlets Jaber also had a concealed carry permit.
