Detroit Police Officer Still In Critical Condition

Detroit – 1045PM: A Detroit police officer was shot on Detroit’s west side Sunday night.

Officers from the 2nd Precinct, Unit 21, responded to reports of an assault & battery at Joy Rd & Dawes.

As the 2 officers attempted to make contact to the reporting person, the suspect emerged and started firing on the officers with a .25 semi-automatic handgun.

Both officers returned fire and struck the suspect.

The suspect was killed and remains on the scene. The suspects weapon was also recovered.

The dead suspects relation to the original call is unknown.

The suspect tied to the original call left the scene in the assault & battery victims vehicle before the officers arrived.

The wounded officer is a 14 year veteran of the DPD. The officer’s partner, a rookie just 6 months out of the academy was not wounded.

The wounded officer was conveyed to Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn by another DPD scout while other scouts blocked roads and intersections leading into Dearborn.

The officer is in critical condition with a “devastating” gunshot wound to the back of the head.

46-year-old POS James Ray has been identified as the shooter.

“Our investigators are estimating that our officers knocked kicked a number of times on the door trying to gain entry unsuccessfully,” said Chief James Craig.

“They were responding to a domestic assault and battery, a woman calling for help.”

“As Ray left his apartment building with a gun, he has actually chambered a round in his weapon,” Craig said. “As he approached the front door that was locked he opened the front door with the gun extended. His arm was extended and the officers responded.

“The officer that was shot fired several rounds from his department issued weapon and simultaneously both the officer and the suspect fell to the ground.”

The wounded officer is the 5th Detroit police officer shot this year and the 7th officer injured or killed since September of 2016. 2 officers of the 12th Precinct were shot by a shotgun wielding knucklehead on Easter Sunday 2017 and 2 officers from the 3rd Precinct were shot on March 15th by a dirtbag thought to be connected to Sgt Collin Rose’s murder in 2016.

Ray’s carcass was eventually bagged and tagged by the medical examiners office.

Detroit Police Seek Bus Shooter

[fvplayer src=”https://youtu.be/vPDuZE62EJw” width=”700″ height=”400″]

This is video from a story we broke on March 23, 2017. DPD units from the 9th Precinct responded to reports of a shooting on a DDOT Bus at Harper & Whittier on Detroit’s east side..

Upon arrival, responding officers reported that none of the fired rounds took effect, then quickly amended their report stating some rounds had struck the bus.

The incident began when the DDOT bus was flagged down by a woman at Harper & Whittier. She was quickly followed by the suspect, DeWilliam Pugh. An argument between the suspect and woman took place inside the bus when the bus driver intervened.

The bus driver repeatedly ordered the suspect off the bus until he pushed Pugh off.

Pugh then appears to fire at least 2 rounds in the direction of the driver, missing him. At least 1 round struck the door of the bus.

Update: The rounds DID take effect, striking the DDOT Bus, but no injuries, thankfully.
