Shooting At Westside Coney Island Leaves 3 Dead, 1 Critically Injured, Suspect In Custody

July 20, 2020 By John Roberts Leave a Comment

The Shooter Gave No Warning

Detroit’s West Side: The Detroit Police Department’s 10th Precinct responded to 9122 Dexter last night at around 11:03PM on reports of a shooting.

Reports indicated multiple people were shot and multiple Detroit EMS rigs were dispatched to the scene.

Video of the shooting shows 8 people inside the lobby of A Eagle Coney Island on Dexter. Five people, 4 men, including the shooter and a woman were at the counter. 3 other male Blacks were either sitting or standing in the lobby conversing.

Seconds into the video, the man at the counter pulled out a handgun from his right pocket and shot 1 man in the head, then 2 other males standing in the lobby next to the counter. The woman at the counter was not shot. There didn’t appear to be an altercation between the shooter and his victims, he just whipped out the handgun and started firing.

As the shooting unfolded, 3 males inside the lobby ran through the front door followed by the woman at the counter. The shooter followed, firing outside as he started to flee.

The shooter then turned his attention back to the 3 males laying on the floor of the lobby and started firing on them again. He then left through the front door and into the parking lot.

Video Shared On Social Media

1 male Black was shot and killed by the shooter outside in the parking lot, seen laying lifeless next to a vehicle in video shared on multiple social media accounts. Reports indicate the shooter took the fatally shot male’s vehicle.

The video shows a number of people outside of the Coney Island looking inside at the scene. One of the wounded males on the floor of the coney island appeared to be on shock with a gunshot wound to the head. The video suggests no one offered aid.

The shooter; who remains unidentified, was taken into custody later by the Detroit Police Department and is being housed at the DDC, Detroit Detention Center. The ages and identities of the victims are unknown at this time.

In addition to the DPD’s 10th Precinct, Detroit Fire’s Engine 39, Hart Medic 54, DEMS Medic 7 and DEMS Medic 27 responded to the scene. DEMS Supervisors 1103 & 1005 also responded due to a mass casualty scene.

A cake, some beer and a few bucks ends up killing a woman on Detroit’s east side

July 15, 2020 By John Roberts Leave a Comment

Party Giver Stabbed 15 Times

Detroit’s East Side – July 9, 2020: At around 8:00PM Thursday evening, Detroit’s 5th Precinct received reports of a foul smell coming from an apartment in the 1100 block of Ashland on Detroit’s east side.

Arriving officers found the decomposed body of a female inside the apartment. The death appeared natural and there were no signs foul play.

DPD homicide, DPD evidence/forensic techs were dispatched to the scene and the medical examiners officer notified.

The Autopsy

The autopsy determined she had been stabbed 15 times about a week earlier.

The Investigation

Sources tell me the victim threw a party for a resident of the apartment building a day or so before being stabbed. Unfortunately, the person she threw the party for was involved with another resident on the 2nd floor….who obviously took exception to all the attention paid to her man and is now accused of murdering the party-giver….stabbing her 15 times.

Stabbing someone 15 times requires a little bit of rage….or more than a little bit.

A cake, some beer and a couple of bucks turned out to be the last kind thing the victim ever did.

And so it goes…

Dispatch Audio: Knife Wielding Man Shot Dead By Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputy

July 14, 2020 By John Roberts Leave a Comment

Suspect Attacked Deputy With Knife

Argument Over Mask Leads To Stabbing

via Michigan State Police: MSP Lansing Troopers and Eaton County Sheriff’s Department Deputies respond to Quality Dairy store in Windsor Twp, Eaton County on July 14 at 6:45 AM for a 911 call about a stabbing incident.

Preliminary investigation shows that two customers were inside the store and an argument occurred between the two customers about one customer not wearing a mask inside the store.

The customer not wearing a mask is also refused service by the store and at one point the customer not wearing a mask pulls out a knife and stabs a 77 year old white male from Lansing, fleeing the scene in a car.

Update 9/21/20: Prosecutors will not charge an Eaton County sheriff’s deputy who shot a man during a traffic stop on suspicion that he was involved in a stabbing after a dispute with a store clerk over masks.

Eaton County Deputy Attacked

A deputy with Eaton County Sheriff’s Department located the suspect vehicle and conducts a traffic stop on the vehicle on Jerryson Drive in Delta Twp, Eaton County at 7:13 AM.

The suspect immediately exits his vehicle and walks towards the deputy with a knife in hand to attack the deputy. The deputy attempted to increase distance by backing up and subsequently shot and injured the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and died during surgery. The suspect has been identified as Sean Ernest Ruis, a 43 year white male from Grand Ledge. The stabbing victim from Quaily Dairy was transported to a local hospital for his injuries and is alive.

The female deputy is a 22 1/2 year veteran with Eaton County Sheriff’s Department and was not injured. Both incidents remain under investigation at this time by MSP.

Pregnant Woman In Distress Denied Care By Unruly Crowds, Shooting On Detroit’s West Side

July 12, 2020 By John Roberts Leave a Comment

DEMS-DPD Prevented From Providing Care

Detroit’s West Side (3:01AM): DPD’s 2nd Precinct and Strike Force units once again had to deal with large unruly crowds in the area of Grand River & Oakman Blvd’s Sunday morning.

The DPD’s 2nd Precinct received a 911 call from a pregnant woman asking for help. The woman stated her water had just broke and she required medical aid at Grand River & Oakman Blvd’s.

At the time of her 911 call, DPD’s 2nd Precinct had another priority 1 call in the same area for shots fired and a possible shooting.

DEMS Medics Met With Gunfire In Area

Detroit EMS had been dispatched to the woman’s call for help and as they approached the scene they were met by gunfire. The medics; unable to provide aid the the woman, staged nearby until the DPD could secure the area.

Strike Force units began to secure the area when word came in that the woman was going into contractions and a shooting victim was found at Grand River & Ohio suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, according to dispatch audio.

DPD units on scene stated the frequency of shots being fired increased as they entered the area.

While searching for the woman and the shooting victim, DPD Scouts had to dodge crowds and speeding vehicles leaving the area. Eventually, Detroit EMS was able to make contact with the woman and an additional DEMS Medic was dispatched to Grand River and Ohio St for the shooting victim.

Later in the evening, another shooting victim was privately conveyed to Henry Ford Hospital, possibly in conjunction with the shooting at Grand River & Ohio. Detroit Police evidence techs were sent to Grand River & Ohio to process the scene of a non-fatal shooting.
