Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision In Dearborn

Early Morning 2 car MVC on Michigan & Nowlin


via Dearborn PD: Dearborn Police are investigating a fatal 2 car motor vehicle collision on Michigan & Nowlin early Friday morning.

“Dearborn Police Department and the Dearborn Fire Department responded to a significant vehicular crash in the area of Michigan Ave and Nowlin St early Friday, July 19, 2024. Police were dispatched to the area at 7:59 a.m.  A preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV driving in excess of the speed limit eastbound on Michigan Ave failed to stop at the traffic light at the intersection of Nowlin St. The SUV struck an F150 truck driving northbound on Nowlin. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, and were rendered aid by Dearborn Fire personnel.

The driver of the F150, a 33-year-old female Dearborn resident, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the SUV, a female 26-year-old Taylor resident, was transported to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition. Dearborn Police Commander Timothy McHale stated, “Our sincere condolences go out to the loved ones of the deceased and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating accident. We thank the community for their patience as we continue to keep the area closed and carry out our investigation into this serious accident.”

Dispatch Audio: Dearborn Police Lobby Shooting, Suspect Dead

Shots Fired At Dearborn Police Station

Dearborn Michigan: Dearborn Police were involved in a shooting inside the lobby of Dearborn PD at 16099 Michigan Ave earlier today at around 3:33PM. The shooter entered the north lobby of Dearborn PD, produced a concealed weapon and shot towards a police officer manning the front desk. Return fire from the officer struck the suspect at least twice, once in the face and once in the leg according to dispatch audio. No officers were injured. Officers on the scene rendered medical aid on the scene and Dearborn Rescue 1 conveyed the wounded suspect to the hospital where he expired. The suspect was described on dispatch audio as a male approximately 30 years old.

Dearborn PD Statement

At approximately 15:30 on Sunday, December 18, an individual entered the front entrance of the Dearborn Police Station (north of the building). Shortly after entering the lobby, the individual removed a concealed handgun and pointed the gun at a uniformed police officer behind the front desk. The individual attempted to fire the gun at the officer, prompting the officer to discharge multiple rounds that struck the individual. Officers proceeded to secure the immediate scene and render aid to the individual, who was transported to a nearby hospital by Dearborn Fire Rescue. The individual was pronounced deceased at the hospital. There are no known threats to the public or the Dearborn Police Station at this time. No officers were harmed as a result of this incident. The lobby remains closed to the public as an initial investigation takes place. Michigan State Police is currently investigating this incident, and all further inquiries should be directed to MSP.

Michigan State Police Update

Update via MSP: The investigation is continuing into this incident. It appears that the suspect drove to the Dearborn Police Department at about 3:30 PM and parked out front. The subject then walked into the Police Department. Currently detectives are reviewing video and interviewing witnesses and collected evidence. A 9 mm pistol was recovered from the suspect. How the weapon was obtained is unclear. The motive of the suspect is unclear at this point. There is a history of mental illness. Investigation continues and pends ME reports, further evaluation of evidence. A investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutor once the investigation is complete.

Michigan State Police Update #2

Special Investigation Section Update: (Dearborn): The investigation is continuing. Further investigation and review of evidence showed that the 33 year old suspect walked into the police station lobby and looked around. When the officer behind the desk approached the window the suspect pulled out a 9mm pistol from his pocket and engaged the officer. The firearm malfunctioned and the suspect attempted to correct the malfunction. The officer shot the suspect. The lobby was cleared. First aid was administered as soon as it was determined the suspect was not a threat. The weapon the suspect had in his possession was stolen earlier that day. Detectives are currently investigating that crime as well. Still pends ME reports, further investigation and prosecutor review. This is the final update pending any new information.

Dispatch Audio: Dearborn PD OIS at Tireman & Normile on Detroit’s West Side.

Dearborn Police Pursuit & Officer Involved Shooting

Detroit/Dearborn: Dearborn PD had a pursuit on Detroit’s west side that terminated when the pursued vehicle struck a building at Tireman & Normile.

Dispatch Audio from Dearborn PD suggests the vehicle was wanted in a missing person case. Pursuing officers reported losing sight of the vehicle while on Tireman but also reported debris in the roadway, suggesting the pursued vehicle had struck another car. Officers in the area then reported the wanted vehicle had struck a building on Normile & Tireman.

Officers then reported shots being fired at them by the driver of the stationary vehicle and 1 officer returned fire. It’s unknown if that officers shots took effect. No officers were injured during the incident.

2 Dead At Tireman & Normile

Once the scene was secure enough, officers approached the vehicle and found one deceased person in the trunk of the vehicle and 1 female passenger, trapped in the wreckage. That female notified officers the driver had shot himself, apparently fatally. Multiple agencies assisted Dearborn PD according to dispatch audio, including Detroit PD, Detroit Fire, Detroit EMS, Dearborn Heights PD and Dearborn Fire/Rescue.

MSP/DPD members of the DPD Homicide Task Force (HTF) is assisting the Dearborn Police Department with a officer involved shooting.

Preliminary Information, which is subject to change, revealed that the Dearborn Police Department was attempting to stop a vehicle that was involved in a endangered missing person investigation. There was a pursuit where officers lost the suspect vehicle.

A crash scene was located a short distance away from where the officers lost sight of the vehicle. As the Dearborn officers approached the crash scene there was an exchange of gun fire between officers and the suspect.

As the officers cleared the crash scene, the suspect driver was found dead with a gun shot wound. Detectives will work with the ME to determine the cause of death. There were also human remains found in the trunk of the suspect vehicle. Those remains have not been identified.

One passenger was also transported to a local hospital with injuries from the crash. No officers or members of the public were hurt. The HTF is handling the investigation which may have ties to another out of state homicide investigation.

There will be no further updates of this incident tonight as the investigation continues. As you can imagine this is a complicated scene and this investigation will take a considerable amount of on scene investigation.

Michigan State Police Update #2

via MSP: Dearborn Investigation Update:
HTF members are continuing their investigation into the incident that occurred on 11/27 on Normile Street. Preliminary investigation revealed that Dearborn PD received a Flock License Plate Reader notification of a missing endangered vehicle.

The vehicle was reported out of Murfreesboro Tennessee. The vehicle was confirmed as a 2020 Dodge SRT, black in color with Tennessee plates. The suspect vehicle was reported on Warren near Greenfield.

Dearborn officers observed the vehicle and caught up to it on Forrer St. near Warren Ave where it stopped on the right shoulder. Officers begin to approach and the suspect driver flees. The officers lose sight of the vehicle and terminate the pursuit.

The officers were eastbound on Tireman St near Normile St and observe the Dodge crashed into a residence. Officers approach giving verbal commands and a gunshot is heard and officers return fire.

A 34 year old female is detained from the front passenger seat and transported to a local hospital for injuries from the crash.

The 36 year old female driver has one gunshot wound to the head and is pronounced dead at the scene. Officers located a 31 year old female in the trunk that appears to have trauma that was not a result from the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 9mm Glock pistol was recovered from the suspect vehicle. Autopsies are scheduled for today. Detectives are currently working with Murfreesboro Police Detectives. They are also gathering further evidence, executing search warrants and interviewing witnesses.

This investigation is ongoing and any information is subject to change. We will continue to update this investigation as new information develops.

Michigan State Police Update #3

Dearborn Endangered Missing Investigation Update:
Detectives working with the Wayne County Medical Examiner have identified the two women involved in the crash: The driver (suspect) of the vehicle has been identified as: Dominique Hardwick, 36, of Lebanon, Tennessee.

The victim located in the trunk of the car has been identified as: Eleni Kassa, 31 years old from Murfreesboro, TN.

Eleni was reported missing to the Murfreesboro Police Department on November 18th.

Autopsy results for Hardwick are consistent with a self inflicted gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding Eleni’s death have not been determined. Detectives are still interviewing witnesses, including the front seat passenger in the crash.

Negotiations Taking Place With Suspect In Shooting

Dearborn Michigan 10.6.22: Dearborn Police were called to the Hampton Inn on Michigan Avenue earlier this afternoon at 1:15PM on reports of possible shots being fired on the hotels 3rd Floor. Arriving officers confirmed the shooting.

Officers immediately identified locations of the wounded and declared a barricaded gunman incident. Dearborn & mutual aid SWAT/SRT units were notified. The area surrounded the hotel were shut down.

Preliminary information stated the suspect, a Black male in his 30s, 5’4″ inches in height and wearing black clothing was armed with a long gun, according to dispatch audio. Dispatch audio suggested it was a short barreled AR style rifle. Additional information shared included a Glock handgun was in the possession of the suspect.

Police officers on scene started an evacuation of residents and searched for the exact location of the suspect.

Dispatch audio suggests at least 1 person was found with a fatal gunshot would on the 3rd floor. Dearborn Fire/EMS was also dispatched to the scene for the injured, staging nearby until the scene was secure enough for them to move in.

According to the Michigan State Police, the suspect was still firing shots, although that wasn’t immediately apparent on dispatch audio, common when monitoring emergency frequencies.

Dispatch audio suggested the suspect was holed up in a 3rd floor room and the incident stemmed from an argument over money with hotel staff. Negotiators have made the scene and are in discussion with the suspect. Additional information gathered indicated the suspects mother and fiancé are also on scene helping with this negotiations.

The Dearborn Police Department is being assisted by multiple agencies, including the MSP and surrounding agencies. MSP’s Trooper 6 is also assisting ground units with scene security.

The situation is still fluid at the time of this writing at 5:39PM. Below is dispatch audio from the beginning of the incident.

Update: Suspect is in custody, no further injuries. The perimeter is being collapsed although Michigan Avenue remains closed at this time. 2043.

Dispatch Audio: Dearborn Police Officer Involved Shooting After Attack On Mosque, Suspect Killed.

Suspect Sets Fire To Al-Huda Islamic Center, Shot Dead By Police

Dearborn Michigan 1:10AM 2/12/2022: Dearborn Police responding to reports of a fire at the Al-Huda Islamic Center, 8835 Warren St, encountered a male with a weapon, dressed in full body armor according to dispatch audio.

Dearborn Fire was dispatched to the mosque on reports of a fire and coded alarms going off. Arriving companies reported a working fire and established a fire scene.

Officers; while investigating the fire, heard a loud ‘pop’ and turned to see the suspect pointing a weapon at them. Officers on the scene described the subject as a ‘light-skinned Middle Eastern male’, armed with a handgun and dressed in full body armor.

Officers followed the subject south on Lonyo from the mosque to Lonyo & Kirkwood. Michigan State Police helicopter Trooper 2 was overhead when the armed suspect began moving towards officers with the his arm outstretched. Detroit Police; also on scene, reported shots fired and the suspect was down. Earlier dispatch audio suggested the suspect had threatened to shoot the police. It is unknown if the suspect fired shots, but Dearborn Officers fired shots towards the subject, downing him.

A Dearborn K9/Handler was deployed to the suspects location. Officers reported the suspect was secured and a weapon recovered. Later dispatch audio from both Dearborn and Detroit Police suggested the suspect was a K-Type or deceased at the scene.

Dearborn Police also identified a suspicious package in the suspects possession, now in a yard near the shooting scene. Dearborn notified their EOD (Explosive Ordinance) and Detroit Fire dispatched Battalion Chief 7, Engine 34, Ladder Truck 22, Squad 5 and Hazmat to stage nearby while the package was investigated.

At the time of this writing, the Detroit Police, Fire and Dearborn Police were waiting for a robot to arrive to further secure the suspect and suspicious package.
