1 Dead, 1 Critical
Detroit’s East Side: DPD’s 5th Precinct responded to the 5900 block of 3 Mile Drive early Thursday morning on reports of a shooting.
At 4:11AM, officers of the 5th Precinct were notified and disptached to the 5900 block of 3 Mile Drive on reports of a woman shot by her boyfriend. At 4:15AM, officers were notified the shooter had shot himself in the head, according to dispatch audio.
Arriving officers attempted to make contact, although the door leading into the residence was locked requiring a breach kit. Officer’s opted to kick in the front door and were met by the armed shooter, described as a 56 year old male. Verbal commands were given when a shot(s) rang out. According to dispatch audio, the shooter shot himself in the head.
Officers entered the dwelling and discovered the body of a female, described as being in her 50s, deceased inside and the shooter down with a gunshot wound to the head. The shooter was conveyed to St John Hospital by DEMS Medic 24 where according to reports remains in critical condition.
