
Short Pursuit Leads To OIS
Detroit’s East Side: A DPD 4200 unit; gang intell, called out a priority at 5:36PM Thursday afternoon, while engaged in a pursuit with a vehicle and its 3 occupants, wanted for a weekend shooting at Meuse & McKinney that left 4 teenagers with gunshot wounds.
The pursuit was initiated in the area of Audubon & Southhampton and terminated in the area of Whittier & McKinney. During the chase, the suspect vehicle almost hit a 5th Precinct unit head-on, twice.
All 3 suspects bailed from the vehicle, 2 were taken into custody quickly, with 1 suspect still running. A DPD 9th Precinct supervisor went on scene and called out shots fired.
1 DPD gang intel officer fired on the armed suspect and officers rendered aid to the fallen suspect until Detroit EMS Medic 24 arrived on scene. DPD’s Air was also overhead assisting ground units during the chase. One officer injured his arm during the chase, he’s doing well, thankfully.
Two weapons were recovered from the scene, 1 inside the vehicle and 1 on the suspect who was shot.
1 Suspect Shot & Killed
During the foot chase, the armed suspect was shot by a DPD officer who feared for his life, according to DPD Chief James Craig, no shots were fired by the suspect.
All three suspects were taken into custody, one of them with a gunshot wound. DEMS Medic 24 was dispatched to the scene.
Scouts from the DPD’s 9th Precinct conveyed 2 of the suspects and DEMS Medic 24 conveyed the third to St John Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
