Double Fatal Shooting On Detroit’s NE Side

January 1, 2018 By Motor City 911

January 1 2018

Detroit’s NE Side: Detroit Police found the bodies of 2 people @ 9241 McKinney St on Detroit’s NE side today at 2:15PM. Both were dead from GSWs to the head…but more on that later.

The story on the double fatal shooting starts yesterday, on New Years Eve.

Detroit Police units from the 9th Precinct were called to the same residence, 9241 McKinney, at 10:18PM Sunday evening.

Tweet below is from yesterday @ 10:18PM.

Shooting: RP reports a possible shooting @ McKinney & Berkshire, then hung up on the 911 operator. 9th Precinct. https://t.co/UTd56q0ZmY

— Motor City 911 (@DetroitScanner) January 1, 2018

DPD’s 9th Precinct dispatched a unit to “an unknown problem”. The unidentified male caller gave the address on McKinney and stated someone was shot or injured at the address, then discontinued the call.

Sunday Evening Dispatch To 9241 McKinney

No further was reported on that call. No disposition was caught on dispatch tapes, so I have no clue what happened after the units made the scene.

I’m assuming they found nothing that would demand further investigation and cleared the call. It was a busy New Year’s Eve with calls stacking up.

Which brings us back to New Years Day at 2:15PM.

Apparently, someone in the gang unit received information that there was a dead body at the scene.

Who gave them that information is unknown…but one can assume.

Gang Unit 2403 then went to the address and was overheard on dispatch stating he was investigating a possible dead body and needed a 9th Precinct supervisor and a scout car at the scene.

Possible DOS/Dead Body:

McKinney & Berkshire in the 9th Precinct.

Gang Intell requests a scout and a supervisor.

Detroit Rings In The New Year With Gunshot Wounds

January 1, 2018

Detroit: 6 people were shot overnight in the D. Some we tweeted, some we didn’t due to..well, celebrating the New Year.

It was a busy night and early morning in Detroit, the shooting team barely had enough time to investigate 1 shooting before being dispatched to the next. One Detroit Police Officer described the night like this:

Oh yeah it sounded like Baghdad lol

— Woody 🐷👮🏻 (@WingsWoody) January 1, 2018

As the tweet suggests, the Detroit Police brought their officers into their precincts to avoid any unfortunate incidents involving errant lead. The Detroit Fire Department/DEMS did the same.

Celebratory gunfire isn’t just a Detroit thing, it happens in most urban environments. Every year someone visits either the emergency room of a local hospital or the medical examiners office.

Last night, December 31 2017 and early New Years morning witnessed many incidents involving gunfire, falling lead wasn’t the problem, it was aimed gunfire.

Confirmed Shooting: 12026 Morang, 9th Precinct. Shooting scene on the north side of Whitehill, in alley behind apartments.

Perp: MB 5’7″, heavy build, wearing a gray hat, black coat and brown boots. Armed w/a black handgun. Unknown direction of travel. https://t.co/ep9V6HzQDv pic.twitter.com/7R8kK4PjxC

More shootings were reported overnight. So far, no one has suffered fatal injuries, thankfully. Info on above tweets below.

At Woodmere & Dix in the 4th Precinct, SW Detroit, a 33 year old W/M was shot in the hand while leaving a party store. He was privately conveyed to the hospital.

At Gratiot & 7 Mile, a 25 year old B/M was shot in the stomach while leaving a party store, also privately conveyed to St John’s Hospital.

At Wanda & Louisiana a 47 year old B/M was shot in the family jewels, also privately conveyed to a local hospital.

At Quinn & Veach, a 36 year old male was shot in the left bicep and back while talking a stroll on Quinn.

At Gratiot & Eastburn, a 17 year old B/F was shot in the thigh. This incident started off as a shots fired call in the area of Brock & Bringard.

Not Tweeted:

East State Fair & I-75, a 24 year old B/M was shot multiple times, once in the head. He was also privately conveyed to the hospital. In this instance, a white pick-up conveyed the victim to the hospital. Reports indicate the pick-up had several bullets holes and the driver fled the hospital after dropping off the victim. The victim was reportedly in critical condition.

And so it goes….

Happy New Year Detroit.

0514AM MT: Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Officer and Castle Rock Police Department were called to 3404 County Line Road in Highland Ranch, Copper Canyon Apartments.

UPDATE, we have multiple deputies down, no update on their status. The scene remains active and please avoid the area.

— DC Sheriff (@dcsheriff) December 31, 2017

What I know as far as the Colorado incident.

Multiple deputies shot, at least 1 w/GSW to arm, 1 w/GSW to chest.

1 deputy still in apartment where shooting occurred. Unk condition.

0515AM MT: Shots Fired, Officers Down – Deputies/officers were fired on from a suspect inside the apartment. 5 deputies/officers were hit, 3 were able to extract themselves from the immediate scene and found cover.

1 deputy sustained injuries that prevented him from leaving the apartment.

1 deputy was wounded and fell outside and in front of the apartment.

Deputies called for medical and assistance, noting they had injured officers on the scene.

1 deputy had a GSW to the arm, another to the chest. The deputy calling for assistance noted that he had 1 deputy down.

All the deputies/officers involved in the incident had at least 1 gunshot wound (GSW), some more.

Rescue efforts were underway for all the injured, including the deputy outside the immediate vicinity of the apartment and the deputy inside.

A deputy situated close to the suspects apartment could hear the radio of the downed deputy inside the apartment, but heard nothing from the wounded deputy. That radio was eventually silenced by a radio technician at the DCSO.

Shots continued to be fired and the deputy noted he could hear the suspect “reloading”. Shots can be heard on the radio transmissions.

At one point, the deputy stated he thought the suspect was armed with an “automatic weapon”.

Shots continued to be fired by the suspect, some of those shots were fired through walls of the apartment and apartment complex.

2 civilians were wounded by those rounds. The 2 civilians were extracted from the scene and conveyed to a local hospital.

2 Men Electrocuted, Fused Together After Breaking Into DPLA Substation

Detroit Public Lighting Authority Substation On Raymond Ave.

2 Men Electrocuted, Fused Together

December 29 2017

Detroit East Side – 650AM: Two men were electrocuted after coming in contact with a high voltage power line early Friday morning.

Detroit Police say the 2 men broke into a Detroit Public Lighting Authority substation at 6610 Raymond Ave and were electrocuted in what appears to be an attempted copper wiring theft.

04:00AM: Power was cut from the neighboring community when the fatal “pzzzzzzt zzaaap” occurred.

Unknown Time: Responding public lighting employees found the 2 bodies.

0650AM: Detroit EMS & Detroit Fire were dispatched to the scene on reports of 1 down.

07:00AM: Detroit Police units from the 7th Precinct were told 1 person was down at the substation on Raymond and dispatched to the scene. The dispatch was revised and units responding were told 2 were down and they were DOS (Dead on Scene).

In a shocking turn of events, the 24,000 volt line was powerful enough to “fuse” the 2 bodies together.

Homicide investigators were also dispatched to the scene.

Below is the dispatch audio sending units from the 7th Precinct to the scene.

Detroit Police Dispatch Audio

Scrapping is a serious problem in Detroit with copper prices hovering around $2.50 per pound.

This Isn’t The First Time

In 2012 a 34 year old man was killed after climbing a utility pole in an attempt to steal $50.00 worth of copper wiring from a transformer.

In that incident on Detroit’s west side, authorities believe the dead man was with others in the theft attempt.

Those accomplices bailed following the electrocution and left the man hanging dead from the utility pole.

Video below is from the 2012 incident.
