Wrong Way Driver Kills One, Injures a Second on I-96

Fatal Crash: On July 31 2021 at approximately 3:15 AM, MSP Detroit Regional Communication Center (DRCC) began receiving calls of a wrong-way driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-96.
Shortly after they began receiving calls of crash at eastbound I-96 and Meyers. Preliminary investigation revealed that the wrong way driver of a passenger car stuck a motorcycle that had a rider and passenger. The motorcycle caught fire after the collision.
The female rider of the motorcycle was killed on impact. The male driver of the motorcycle has serious injuries and is in a local hospital.
Alcohol Is Suspected
The 33 year old male driver of the wrong way vehicle was treated and released from a local hospital and is currently being lodged at the Detroit Detention Center. Alcohol is suspected and the at fault driver has one prior alcohol offense. Pends prosecutor review.
