Detroit Fire’s Chief 5
Detroit’s West Side: A Detroit Fire Chief is accused of operating while intoxicated and crashing his city vehicle while responding to a dwelling fire on Detroit’s west side. At 1:12AM, Detroit Fire’s 5th Battalion were dispatched to a dwelling fire at Barton & Livernois. It appears, according to dispatch audio, as if DFD’s dispatch had trouble establishing contact with Chief 5. Eventually, contact was made and Chief 5 acknowledge the box alarm.
Detroit Fire’s dispatch did lose communications again and it was learned Chief 5 was involved in an MVC at the John C Lodge Freeway & W Grand Blvd.
Battalion Chief 7 was dispatched to the fire scene while Ladder Truck 22 took incident command. Chief 7 was eventually cancelled by Ladder Truck 22 when the fire was under control.
Detroit Fire’s Battalion Chief 1 and DFD’s Senior Chief 203 responded to the accident scene on the Lodge. No one appears to have been injured.
The incident is under investigation.
