82 W Hollywood MAYDAY Fire Scene

Detroit 1240PM July 28 2022: Detroit Fire was dispatch to a dwelling fire at 82 W Hollywood x John R earlier today. Detroit Fire’s Engine 44 had been notified by civilians of a possible fire. Upon arrival, Engine 44 started to stretch on the burning dwelling, asking for the box.
Battalion Chief 8, Engines 40, 56 Ladder Truck 18 and Squad 5 responded. DEMS Medic 18 was also dispatched. DEMS Medic 16, DEMS Supervisors 1103 & 1107 were also dispatched.
(The companies involved are numerous, I’ll update all companies on the fire scene when I get the opportunity to do so)
(I have yet to check DEMS tapes but will do so shortly so everyone involved is annotated in this post)
Battalion Chief 8 reported progress being made when a MAYDAY was called at around 1:35PM by Chief 8. At the time there were multiple firefighters trapped according to dispatch audio, multiple DEMS rigs were ordered. Chief of the Department 200, Deputy Chief 201, Senior Chief 203, Deputy Fire Commissioner 101 and Battalion Chief 5 also responded.
2 firefighters remained trapped and one was extricated by companies ‘in the hole’. Work by firefighters continued until the last firefighter; conscious and breathing, was removed. Detroit Police had MULTIPLE Scout cars on scene to provide an escort to DEMS Medics conveying to DRH Hospital.
Firefighters ‘inside the hole’ had to be ordered out of the hole so fresh firefighters could be rotated in, there appears, according to dispatch, a bit of an issue with them getting out….as one would expect. You don’t leave a brother or sister when they’re down, but orders are orders. At the time of this writing, there were 77 firefighters on the fire scene.
Sources are telling me everyone involved is ok….thankfully.
Below is the dispatch audio of the incident, edited only for gaps in audio.
