Officer Shot During Attempt Suicide Run
Update: The officer, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig, was stabbed several times in the leg in the video below. The subject was obviously armed with a knife. Officers on the scene fired on the suspect and the officer may have been struck by friendly fire. Officer’s on the scene have told me it was one of the most horrific calls they’ve responded to.
Detroit’s East Side 4:39PM 4.20.21: A Detroit Police Officer was shot while responding to an attempt suicide run on Detroit’s east side Tuesday afternoon in the 20400 block of Hannah x 8 Mile. The officers of the 11th Precinct received reports of a man with a knife who had; according to dispatch audio, stabbed himself in the neck. Arriving officers confirmed the stabbing on arrival. At 1639PM a DPD 11th Precinct Scout called out a priority of Officer Down! A DPD 11th Precinct scout, 1151, conveyed the wounded officer to DRH while other units from multiple precincts blocked intersections and onramps leading to Detroit Receiving Hospital.The perpetrator according to dispatch was soon declared down and is deceased. The conveying DPD 11th Precinct scout made DRH at around 1649PM. Dispatch audio suggests the officer was shot in the right hand.
