You’re all ROCKSTARS!
First off I want to thank you for all your donations. It’s been incredible and your generosity will not go unrewarded. Besides the ability to continue the service we provide, we’ll be able to investigate other ways to help Charles. I have plans to provide Charles with an additional income, but those plans are only possible if monies are available to actually accomplish that goal…I’ll have more on that later if it becomes a reality.
All of your donations, ALL OF THEM, have gone towards upgrading what we already have. Currently we have a DELL XPS 8700 desktop, a Lenovo T540p laptop donated by TOD, an old MacBook Air 11″, early 2014 and another Lenovo desktop donated again, by TOD.
Everything we do here is through computers, all of them record dispatch audio, allowing us to always have access to current incidents. There are other secret programs I use to help in that process . I don’t use a cellphone to report incidents, ever.
The DELL XPS desk top is pretty good, although old, but certainly not incapable of being upgraded. Your donations have paid for 8GB’s of RAM (memory) that will be added to the already 8GB, 16GB in total.
In addition to the RAM, a new 1 Terabyte Crucial Solid State Drive has been purchased. In time we’ll also purchase a new GPU card, or video card, which will help power multiple monitors plugged into the XPS. These upgrades will power us through anything we throw at it….it’s a wonderful thing.
The Lenovo T540p has gone through similar upgrades, already with 4GB of RAM, we added another 4GB for a total of 8GB. A 500GB Crucial solid state drive has also been purchased, bringing the laptop into the 21st Century.
It too has a lot of programs running through it and has been a pretty slow beast, but no longer. Thank you again for your generosity.
The MacBook Air 11″; early 2014 model, has been beaten to death…it’s my go to laptop to actually copy audio so that it can be shared with you and has had that job for years.
It’s in desperate need for a clean up, a new battery and a new power cord…Your donations have once again solved that issue. Thank you.
The Lenovo desktop, a small form factor M91p will eventually, hopefully, go through the same treatment with more memory and a solid state drive. It has a displayport for the monitor, so we need to find a small 24″ monitor with a displayport etc etc etc. That’s for the future.
I’m in the process of investigating monitors for the Lenovos. There are all sorts of well made cheap monitors out there, typically around $100-150 that have what’s required, nothing fancy at all. I’m certainly no gamer…just a parrot. The XPS will have 3 monitors plugged into it, the Lenovos 1 each…although the Lenovo T540p isn’t necessary, it would just make things a little easier to see.
Another purchase made possible through your donations has been a new mouse….yeah, a new mouse….except this mouse can move from 1 computer to another by just flipping a switch. I can go from one feed to another with just a switch….it’s another wonderful thing. It’ll cut down on the time that’s needed to report incidents…not that time is of the essence as most incidents are delayed in their reporting, over officer safety concerns, but the new Logitech mouse will de-clutter the command post, where 2 mice were needed, now 1 tackles the job.
A new scanner is on tap, eventually, the Uniden SDS200 is definitely an expensive thing…we’ll see how that goes in the future. First things first, having the ability to report.
So that’s about it, other than the subscription to Soundcloud, which enables us to store and share large files of audio.
Like I said, you have NO idea how much this helps.
